I Joined A Gym, Now What?

I totally understand the frustration šŸ˜„šŸ˜„.

It’s like everyone was just shouting Nike go and lose weight now, I know this good gym in Lekki.

They gave suggestions, they gave an address but they omitted a very important part of the whole thing.

They forgot to give you a welcome to the gym tutorial and now you’re standing there in your new workout gear, hands akimbo and looking at all these people grunting and sweating in strange looking equipment and thinking about the non-refundable clause in the gym receipt šŸ˜ŖšŸ˜Ŗ.

I’m sorry about that and I hope these tips help your next visit to the gym not be so boring and awkward.

The first thing I think you can do when you get to the gym first is, walk up to the coach and introduce yourself. Most times these guys/gals see so many faces that they might not be able to remember who is new and who isn’t.

If you can’t identity who it is right away, ask for them at the reception and introduce yourself plus your goals and get a quick tour of the gym,the equipment you should use and what exercises would help you.

Second thing is to master the equipment. It’s very important that you know how to operate the equipment in the gym.

Know how to reduce or increase the weights (so you don’t end up with an injury).

Familiarising yourself with the equipment can keep you from damaging expensive equipment and incurring unnecessary costs.

The next thing you can do is get a workout buddy. Instead of just grunting alone for your 1 hour gym time, why not share the grunts, the pain and laughter?

While you may not make a buddy straight away but keep an eye out for who you might like to be your buddy.

The easiest way to do is to just smile and introduce yourself. If you see someone you think you might like, go over, say hello and get talking (about your workout goals of course šŸ˜‰šŸ˜‰).

Lastly, just enjoy it. You might fall down a couple times or move wrongly during a dance session but just go with the flow and have fun. After all, if you don’t enjoy your workouts, you’ll get burned out faster.

I hope these tips help.
