So this one is a popular question I get. A lot of people what to know what it means to detox and how often detox should be.
Detoxing is a process of ridding your body of harmful toxins. These toxins are as a result of the foods we eat, the excess refined sugar and chemicals that our bodies absorb from snacks and treats we have.
A detox is also great to boost your weightloss. If you feel it is stalling a bit, having a week long detox can cause you to see results quickly.
Another great use of detox is when you just feel stuffed up and bloated and you feel like your insides need to breathe a little, try a detox for a few days until you begin to feel better.
While a regular detox even helps boost your fibre and vitamin levels as you will consume chiefly fruits and natural juices, an extended detox period could also make your supply of other essentials like iron, Omega 3 and carbs to be in a deficit, which can be dangerous.
As a regular guide, please avoid detoxing if you’re pregnant or recuperating from a bout of illness. This is because, during a detox, you may not get around to eating all the classes of nutrients your body needs to thrive and as such, you may make matters worse than better. So please consult your doctor as necessary or stay off a detox completely.
If you however do not fall into this category, also take care while detoxing because if you do it too often or too long, it could even result in loss of essential nutrients and energy, which may begin to have adverse effects on your body and your fitness journey.
Here is a guide on how frequently you can safely detox.
Try to keep your detox to between 2 and 4 times a year, this means roughly once a quarter.
You can also try to keep it within 5 days to a week before reverting to your regular diet.
This way, you can be sure that your body gets regular cleansing but at the same time, is not starved of essential nutrients.
So there you have it ladies, the first quarter of the year is almost over. Who feels like hey should have a detox?
