Making Fitness A Lifestyle

The reason a lot of people get tired and burnt out in their fitness journey is because so many people want quick fixes and shortcuts. But fitness is for life. It’s not just so that you can wear a new black dress or wear a bikini. All those are good but ultimately taking care of your body is a daily thing.

Drinking water, exercising, taking fruits and vegetables, taking care of your mental health and emotions is a daily thing, and that’s why fitness should be a lifestyle and not a quick fix.

Also if fitness is not a lifestyle, that’s when you see meal prep as a chore, think water is tasteless and fruits are bland. But the moment you can recognize that this step you’re taking is for life, you’ll be able to put things into perspective and take all the necessary steps.

So how can you make a fitness a lifestyle?

  • Make up your mind: everything starts in the mind including fitness. This time make up your mind on why you want to lose weight and how you’re going to do it. Ensure that you know your why because that’s what will keep you going on the days when you feel tired.
  • Create a support system: whether this means telling your family your plans or stopping your friends from bringing alcohol to your home, communicate to all the stakeholders in your life what you want to do. You also want to go a step further and get a buddy with whom you can workout and who will keep you accountable.
  • Create a plan: we will always have only 24 hours in the day and it’s left to you to manage it as best you can. This means that if health and fitness will be a part of your life, then there must be a plan in place to support it. You’ll probably need to make a list of your daily activities and make a space to accommodate your exercise/meal prep so that you’re not setting yourself up for failure.
  • Focus: distractions will always come but you need to always remember why you’re doing what you’re doing and stay focused on the process. Create visual reminders, set alarms,do whatever is necessary to make you remember why you started and keep at it to achieve all your goals.
