Why you really don’t need the extra sugar in your diet.

You have probably heard it a ton of times, Sugar is bad for you, but why exactly is sugar bad for you?

Sugary drinks, candy, baked goods, and sweetened dairy are the main sources of added sugar. But even savory foods, like breads, tomato sauce, and protein bars, can have sugar, making it all too easy to end up with a surplus of the sweet stuff.
There are no proteins, essential fats, vitamins or minerals in sugar only energy. They are just calories with no essential nutrients.

When people eat up to 10-20% of calories as sugar or more, this can become a major problem and contribute to nutrient deficiencies.
Refined sugars can cause you to develop deficiencies of essential vitamins and minerals. First of all, sugary products contain lots of calories, so eating them reduces your intake of healthier foods. As a result, your body simply doesn’t get a chance to consume the nutrients it needs.

The most dangerous problem associated with eating sugary products is obesity. However, it’s essential to understand that sugar, as a substance, doesn’t cause you to become overweight. However, sweets are high in calories and often fats, and lacking in important nutrients at the same time. Due to their pleasant flavor, most people eat too many of those things to be healthy. That’s what causes obesity and a variety of other nutrition disorders. Because of the effects of sugar on hormones and the brain, sugar dramatically increases the risk of becoming overweight or obese.
Sugar is also very bad for the teeth, because it provides easily digestible energy for the bad bacteria in the mouth.

Does sugar cause diabetes? While added sugars may play a role in your disease risk, the causes of diabetes are various, experts say.
Insulin is a very important hormone in the body.
It allows glucose (blood sugar) to enter cells from the bloodstream and tells the cells to start burning glucose instead of fat.
Having too much glucose in the blood is very harmful and one of the reasons for complications of diabetes, like blindness.
Many studies show that sugar consumption is associated with insulin resistance, especially when it is consumed in large amounts.
The cells become “resistant” to it. This is also known as insulin resistance, which is believed to be a leading driver of many diseases… including metabolic syndrome, obesity, cardiovascular disease and especially type II diabetes.

Sugars don’t really offer and specific health benefits. However, they have been said to stimulate dopamine production, so sweets could make you a little bit happier.

Almost all foods contain natural sugars, so sugars are naturally part of our diet. Added sugars are what you should watch out for. They have no benefit whatsoever to our bodies.
