Weight Loss Lies You Need to Stop Believing Now

If you have been doing everything you think is right and still not seeing results, the problem might not be your effort. It might be what you have been told.

There are five weight loss lies so widely believed that most women never question them. And they are quietly keeping you stuck, frustrated, and starting over every single Monday.

Let us bust them right now.

Lie 1: You need to starve yourself to lose weight

This is probably the most dangerous one. And it is completely false.

Starvation is not a strategy. It is a shortcut to gaining even more weight in the long run. When you severely restrict your food, your body goes into survival mode, holding onto fat and slowing your metabolism to protect itself. You suffer through it, lose some weight, and then the moment you eat normally again, it all comes rushing back. Usually with extra.

The truth is…

You should be eating up to five times a day. Members in my community eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks in between. So you should eat balanced, nourishing, portion-controlled meals that keep your body fuelled and your metabolism active. That is how you lose weight and keep it off.

Lie 2: You must cut out carbohydrates

Carbs are not the enemy. They never were.

Your body needs carbohydrates for energy. Cutting them out completely is unsustainable, miserable, and unnecessary. The real issue is usually the cooking method — deep frying, excessive oil or the portion size, not the carb itself.

The fix is simple. Balance your plate. Fill half with carbohydrates, and divide the other half between vegetables and protein. Rice, sweet potato, oats, whole grains, all of these have a place in a weight loss journey done right.

Lie 3: You must hit 10,000 steps every day

This one sounds very official. It is not a medical requirement.

10,000 steps is a general wellness guideline, not a weight loss rule. What actually moves the needle is effective, intentional exercise, and 30 to 40 minutes of purposeful movement that challenges your body and fits into your real life. A focused 35-minute workout will do far more for your results than obsessively counting steps all day.

Move with intention. Not with a number.

Lie 4: Weight loss is harder after 40

Age is not your enemy. Your habits might be.

The reason so many women over 40 struggle is not purely biological. It is because they are still treating a 40-something body the way they treated their body in their twenties. The rules have changed. Hormones have shifted. Stress and cortisol play a much bigger role in fat storage than most people realise.

What works after 40 is managing stress, adjusting your lifestyle habits, and having the right structure and support around you. It is absolutely possible. The women in my community prove it every single day.

Lie 5: You need motivation to succeed

Motivation is a feeling, and feelings change.

Waiting until you feel motivated is one of the biggest reasons women keep starting over. Some days motivation shows up. Most days it does not. And if your consistency depends on how you feel, your results will always be inconsistent.

What you actually need is your WHY. A deep, personal, non-negotiable reason that pulls you back on the hard days when motivation has completely disappeared. Write it down, put it somewhere visible, and let it carry you when feelings will not.

A true, lasting transformation does not come from following myths. It comes from understanding how your body actually works, and building a lifestyle around that truth.
